  • 3.1 There is a long line of customers all waiting for service and you are the only mechanic on duty, how do you handle this situation?
    • In a circumstance where I am responsible for a long line of customers and the only mechanic, it would be important to communicate clearly to everyone and utilize time management practices. First, I would acknowledge every customer by speaking to them, and providing them a general time of service estimate. Next, I would briefly look at each vehicle to notice any quick fixes or urgent issues so I can attend to those repairs FIRST! I would stay deliberate and aware of what I should be performing. I would work quickly and deliberately without sacrificing quality. I would provide constant communication to the customers in line, giving them an update of progress. If convenient, I would provide future appointment times to manage my workload while ensuring my customers receive efficient service.
3.2 A customer is not happy with the labor fee and does not want to pay for it. Your colleague has already explained that this fee is mandatory, but they still argue the charge. What would you do?
    • If a customer is unhappy with the labor fee I would remain calm and listen carefully to the customers problems to show that I respected the point of view they had. I would explain again as to why the labor fee is required highlighting all the expertise and time it takes to create the job right. I would reassure the customer that the fee is the quality work and of safety. If the customer still disagreed then I would say I could have a manager or supervisor to discuss the situation and come to a fair solution. If a customer is angry at a fee even though I explained it. I hope to remain as respectful and professional as possible to maintain being trusted, and pleasant experience.
3.3 A customer is being disrespectful towards one of your colleagues and starts to threaten them. What would you do?
    • If a client is rude and aggressive towards a co-worker, I would do my best to de escalate the situation calmly and step in calmly, to tell the client to stop and that they are being disrespectful. I would want to keep my co-worker and everyone else to remain safe, good old calmness is the way to avoid escalating a situation. If the client continues to be hostile, I would make sure management was communicated to ASAP to intervene. Supporting the co-worker is important too, so making sure that they feel okay and that they in this together with me is important, we definitely take their safety seriously. A safe workplace, for the client and the team is the priority always!
